UNFOLDING
It consists of two immersive elements indicating the duality of the white cube and the black box. The white cube, being a typical gallery space, creates an impression of atemporality. Within this space, the artist redefines the very notion of 'room', challenging the nature of how and what is perceived underneath. Upon entering the cube, the viewer literally finds themselves in 'heaven'. The 'spatial trickery' effect achieved by integrating images of the sky across the surface of the cube encourages the viewer to turn inward on themselves.
Lidia has been researching the sky (one of the main symbols of her work) and soundscapes of different cities for many years in order, on the one hand, to address the theme of solitude and, on the other hand, to create a safe space for both herself and the viewers. Inspired by Orthodox iconography and the way different artists have depicted the sky, Russkova-Hasaya builds her inclusive practice by creating a total installation of meditative and even healing prints.
