LIDIA RUSSKOVA-HASAYA
Her work invites viewers to experience a dialogue between the physical and the ephemeral, using light, geometry, and sound to blur the boundaries between the tangible and the intangible. With a keen focus on transcendence and transformation, Lidia’s installations offer both a conceptual and sensory experience, encouraging audiences to reflect on the intersections of history, identity, and contemporary socio-political contexts..
My work explores the intersection of space, performance, and sensory experience, where physical boundaries blur into emotional and conceptual realms. Rooted in the traditions of conceptual art, I draw from a diverse range of media — photography, sculpture, painting, video, music, and performance — to create immersive environments that challenge the viewer’s perception of time, identity, and transformation.
With a background in theater and architectural studies, my practice is shaped by an understanding of scenography, spatiality, and the human body’s relationship to its surroundings. I design pieces that act as gateways — portals — where physical structures are imbued with light, sound, and energy, offering both a reflection on the self and an exploration of the collective experience. My installations invite viewers to navigate through and beyond the constructed forms, transforming their engagement with the space into an act of personal discovery.
The use of light as a medium plays a central role in my practice. Neon, often seen as ephemeral and transient, contrasts with the solid, architectural forms I create. This dynamic between permanence and impermanence speaks to themes of migration, memory, and the changing nature of identity in an increasingly globalized world. The tension between these forces encourages a dialogue between the past and future, reality and imagination, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of their own landscapes, both external and internal.
Through my work, I seek to build a space for contemplation and dialogue, to evoke the transformative power of art and the possibility of transcendence through the act of crossing thresholds — both literal and metaphorical.
